Goldman's earnings beat was largely because they clawed back compensation from previous quarters. The businesses largely performed in line with expectations this quarter.
As an aside, GS seems reasonably priced compared to other banks that trade on normalized earnings. GS trades at 7.5 times actual earnings while others trade at similar multiples of "normalized" earnings years out.

they will take it private if it gets too cheap also. The banks have been cooked imo.
